First quarter of 2025 was one of the poorest ever for Bollywood in a calendar year as barring Chhaava, none of the films emerged as a big success. All eyes were on Sikandar to revive Bollywood, but the film’s debacle has turned out to be a case study no less. However, as is the saying, ummeed par duniya qaayam hai and with the new quarter kickstarting, one just hopes that Jaat reverses the trend.
Sunny Deol starrer is his first release since Gadar 2 which has arrived more than a year back in August 2023. Though the actor had been working in a couple of other films before that as well and has even started a few new ones, it’s with Jaat that he is coming back at the big screen. This one is primarily a south film and it’s for the first time ever that Sunny is being seen in this avatar. Director Gopichand Malineni is promising to bring the 80s actor in an avatar that audience love to see him in and with Randeep Hooda as the main villain (as a south character Ranatunga), it would be interesting to witness the face-off between the two.
The film arrives this Friday and is set to be an out and out massy affair with an eye on single screen audiences and the ones at the interiors. The teaser and trailer of the film have made decent to good impact while catering to the gentry, which means one can’t family audiences to drive in hordes. Moreover, while promotion and marketing of the film have been good, it hasn’t been the kind that breaks the ceiling. All of this means that the opening would be decent enough at Rs. 7-9 crores with an outside chance of hitting the Rs. 10 crores mark if the reports turn out to be good. Considering the flop streak that Bollywood has been seeing for so long now, even this would be at least a fair enough way for Jaat to kickstart its box office campaign.
