It was a very low weekend for Bollywood as the combined collections of new releases came to just around Rs. 4 crores. Do Aur Do Pyaar and Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2 came together and if not for the former doing some sort of business, it would have been really disastrous for the industry.
Do Aur Do Pyaar had something to look forward to with good reviews and better footfalls, which did see growth on Saturday, though Sunday was flat again. As a result, the weekend came to Rs. 3.43 crores*. Since the film was always meant to be a word-of-mouth affair, the hope is that the urban romcom builds from here on. The expectation is that today is steady and better than even Friday number of Rs. 65 lakhs, so that in the lean period ahead there is some sort of a miraculous turnaround. It would be tough but then today would be the deciding factor.
For Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2, it was all the more difficult as the weekend has come to mere Rs. 50 lakhs*. This is certainly not the kind of number Ekta Kapoor and Dibakar Banerjee would have been looking for, though with expectations already set with the audiences around the kind of content in the offering, it is not entirely surprising. That said, even with the shock value of the content and the niche treatment given, one would have expected the numbers to show some sort of improvement over the weekend on a daily basis.
