Subhash Ghai teases Riteish Deshmukh’s return in female avatar: “She is our next heroine”

Riteish Deshmukh’s portrayal of Sania in Apna Sapna Money Money, where he cross-dressed and adopted the persona of a woman, remains one of his most iconic comic roles. And now, it seems the actor is all set to revisit this memorable character in an upcoming film backed by veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai.

On June 30, Ghai took to his social media handle to share a still of Riteish in his female avatar from the 2006 comedy. Alongside the image, he wrote, “She is our next heroine in our forthcoming film under Mukta Arts.” He further described him as “a classic beauty.” While the filmmaker has not disclosed additional details about the project, the post has already generated excitement among fans.

It’s worth noting that Apna Sapna Money Money isn’t the only film in which Riteish has played a female character. He also took on similar disguises in Humshakals, a Sajid Khan directorial co-starring Saif Ali Khan and Ram Kapoor.

For now, fans will have to wait for more updates, but the prospect of seeing Riteish return to his beloved comic timing and cross-dressing antics has certainly created a buzz.

On the professional front, Riteish was last seen in Raid 2, where he played the antagonist opposite Ajay Devgn. He also appeared in the fifth installment of the Housefull franchise. His upcoming slate includes several exciting projects, including Masti 4.

Ibrahim Ali Khan and Rasha Thadani to headline coming-of-age romantic film: Report

Despite their debut projects receiving lukewarm responses, star kids Rasha Thadani and Ibrahim Ali Khan continue to enjoy significant popularity on social media. Now, there’s an exciting update for their fans—if reports are to be believed, the two are all set to share screen space for the first time in an upcoming film.

According to a report by Mid-Day, a source close to the production revealed, “Ibrahim and Rasha have been doing reading sessions and workshops. The makers were clear that they didn’t want just a glamorous pair, but two actors who could tap into the awkward, exhilarating energy of first love. Rasha and Ibrahim clicked from their very first meeting.” The source further added, “While he debuted with a rom-com, Ibrahim will be seen in intense roles in Sarzameen and Diler, the latter featuring him as a marathoner. After those two outings, this film—with its coming-of-age arc—will showcase a softer and more relatable side of him.”

If confirmed, this project would mark Ibrahim’s second foray into the romantic genre. His debut film Naadanaiyaan, which was released directly on Netflix, was a romantic comedy. However, his performance received mixed to negative feedback, with critics pointing out issues with his expressions, dialogue delivery, and dubbing.

On the other hand, Rasha made her debut in the theatrical release Azaad, which also introduced Ajay Devgn’s nephew, Aaman Devgn. While the film didn’t fare well at the box office, Rasha’s performance was appreciated by audiences.

It will certainly be interesting to see Rasha and Ibrahim come together for a romantic drama. As of now, there has been no official confirmation or denial from the actors or the makers. Fans will have to wait for an official announcement.

Sitaare Zameen Par Box Office: Has an excellent growth on Saturday, enters Rs. 100 Crore Club

Sitaare Zameen Par is showing the kind of trending which is frankly, quite unique to itself. No film in the last with a double digit opening has seen 80%+ growth on Saturday and then 150%+ growth on Sunday when compared to Friday. However, it did that last weekend. However, even though the saying is that lightening doesn’t strike twice at the same place, it’s happening indeed for Sitaare Zameen Par. Reason being that the trending is pretty much repeating in the second weekend as well.

While Friday collections were Rs. 6.67 crores, yet again the film has seen huge growth on Saturday as Rs. 12.55 crores have come in. Though the growth is 60%+ this time around, even that’s quite huge as the numbers are still on the higher side. For a niche film like this, the collections are solid now and go on to indicate that it will keep running in theatres for a while now. In fact, even if 30%-40% growth over Saturday will come in today then not only will the film go past the Rs. 15 crores mark but also set the weekdays up for some further good numbers.

The film has now also entered the Rs. 100 Crore Club, what with the collections reading Rs. 107.68 crores. A lifetime in excess of Rs. 150 crores+ is a given now and the Aamir Khan starrer could well be aiming for a much higher number now.

Maa Box Office: Kajol starrer supernatural drama grows on Saturday

After taking a start of Rs. 4.93 crores on Friday, Maa saw some growth on Saturday which has further firmed up its standing at the box office. Since the film had collected on the higher end of the predicted range, one wondered if Saturday will indeed see more than 20%-25% growth. Moreover, there was 2+1 tickets offer on Friday whereas none of that was there on Saturday, which means everything had to be organic at the box office.

The film still managed to collect well and, in fact, saw higher than expected growth as Rs. 6.26 crores came in. This is a healthy number and while today it will certainly cross Rs. 7 crores, if it somehow manages to come close to Rs. 8 crores mark, then that would put it in a healthy position. A number like that will ensure that Monday collections would be Rs. 3 crores+ which would be good to take it through.

So far, the film has netted Rs. 11.91 crores and a weekend close to Rs. 20 crores is there for the taking. This means a lifetime of Rs. 40 crores+ is now almost sorted and some sort of sustenance from the second week onwards as well can help it push towards Rs. 50 crores mark as well, which would bring in the same range as Rani Mukherji’s Mardaani franchise.

Ritesh Batra returns with a love story 6 years after Photograph, shoot begins this September: Report

The acclaimed filmmaker Ritesh Batra’s is set to return to the director’s chair, six years after his last release, Photograph (2019), which starred Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Sanya Malhotra. As per a report in Mid-Day, Batra is gearing up to begin production on a new romantic drama—staying true to the gentle, emotional storytelling that has become his hallmark over the past 12 years. The project is expected to go on floors in September.

“Ritesh spent a considerable time writing this big romance. The film is in final prep mode,” an insider revealed to the publication. Known for delivering heartfelt Indian romantic dramas like The Lunchbox (2013) and Photograph (2019), as well as international narratives such as Our Souls at Night (2017) and The Sense of an Ending (2017), Batra is now set to bring a cross-cultural love story to life.

“It’s a mature romance between an Indian man and a foreigner. It’s the kind of sensitive drama about love and loss that Ritesh has come to be known for,” a source shared with Mid-Day. The cast for the project has already been finalized.

The project will mark Ritesh Batra’s reunion with Guneet Monga Kapoor, who was one of the producers of The Lunchbox. She returns as one of the producers on this international co-production.

Maa Box Office Estimate Day 2: Kajol's horror film jumps on Saturday; Impresses with Rs. 7 crores

The Kajol led Maa is recording a good run at the box office in India. After opening at Rs 4.93 crore, the Ajay Devgn-produced film has collected in the range of Rs 6.75 crore to Rs 7.25 crore on Saturday, taking the two-day total collection to Rs 12.50 crore. The film is doing well in the urban markets and the mass belts are expected to come on board from Sunday.

The film is faring the best in the night shows due to the genre, and if families embrace the U/A rated horror film on Sunday, it could see another big spike in business on its third day. The first weekend of Maa will stand around the Rs 18 crore mark, which is a fantastic result for a Kajol led film.

The film has done well despite competition from Sitaare Zameen Par and Maa, and is expected to continue with a good run for the next two weeks, as the early reports from audience are positive. Without competition, the film would have got a better release, leading to at-least 10 percent better collections.

The film is a part of Shaitaan Universe, which has also boosted the prospects. The national chains have contributed around 50 percent to the total business, which is a strong ratio.

Ranveer Singh to join Maddock Films’ expanding horror-comedy universe?

The unprecedented success of Stree, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, laid the foundation for Maddock Films to build its own horror-comedy universe. This cinematic world already features popular names like Pankaj Tripathi, Akshay Kumar, Rashmika Mandanna, and Ayushmann Khurrana. Now, the latest buzz suggests that Ranveer Singh may also be joining this growing universe.

According to a report by Mid-Day, a source close to the production revealed, “Ranveer has been in conversations with Dinesh for a while. He was at the Maddock office last week. The makers wanted a fresh energy to drive the next chapter, and Ranveer is keen to explore the genre. The paperwork is likely to be completed soon.” The source further added, “The idea is to create an Avengers-style culmination down the road. They are discussing dates, as Ranveer will soon wrap up Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar. He has also allotted dates for Don 3. This project is expected to go on floors in early 2026.”

As of now, neither Ranveer Singh nor Maddock Films has officially confirmed or denied the report. However, the possibility of seeing Ranveer enter the horror-comedy space is exciting, especially since this would mark his first project in the genre. Additionally, it has been a while since fans have seen him in a full-fledged role, with his last release being Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani in 2023.

Ileana D’Cruz welcomes second child, shares name and photo

Actress Ileana D’Cruz may appear less frequently on the big screen these days and rarely gives interviews. Still, she continues to keep her fans updated about her personal life, be it her pregnancy journey or the challenges of motherhood. On June 28, the actress shared yet another heartwarming update: the birth of her second child, a baby boy, with husband Michael Dolan.

For those unaware, Ileana and Michael tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in 2023 and welcomed their first child, Koa Phoenix Dolan, in August of the same year.

‘Kaanta Laga’ fame Shefali Jariwala passes away at 42

Shefali Jariwala, best known for her appearance in the iconic music video ‘Kaanta Laga’, passed away on June 27, 2025, at the age of 42.

According to news agency ANI, "Mumbai Police received information about this at 1 a.m. Her body has been sent to Cooper Hospital for postmortem. The cause of death is not yet clear." However, the All Indian Cine Workers Association has claimed that Shefali Jariwala died due to a heart attack. Fans will have to wait for an official confirmation from the authorities or her husband, actor Parag Tyagi.

Box Office: Kajol springs a surprise with Maa; collects Rs. 4.50 crores on Friday despite competition

The Shaitaan Universe has expanded with Maa, and the film has surprised one and all at the box office in India. According to very early estimates, the Kajol led horror film has collected in the range of Rs. 4.25 crores to Rs 4.75 crores on Friday. The film has performed better than expected and has in-fact emerged as one of the biggest openers of all time for a Kajol film.

The film has collected around Rs. 2.25 crores in the national chains, which have contributed about 50 percent to the total business. With a horror genre, the walk-ins through the day were very good, and even the mass belts posed better than usual occupancies. The numbers have come despite competition from F1 and Sitaare Zameen Par, and a better release plan could have resulted in a start of Rs. 5 crore plus in India.

Maa will be looking to show an upward trajectory in business on Saturday and Sunday, and score a weekend of Rs. 25 crores, which is a very good result for a feature film starring Kajol. Of course, the genre factor aided with the Shaitaan goodwill has pushed the business for Maa.

The best performing center, as expected was West Bengal owing to the genre and local connect.

Anshuman Jha steps in as director of Lakadbaggha 2, replacing Sanjay Shetty

Actor-filmmaker Anshuman Jha is confirmed to be directing the upcoming sequel to his 2023 cult vigilante action film Lakadbaggha. Titled Lakadbaggha 2 – The Monkey Business, the much-anticipated follow-up takes the animal-lover vigilante universe global, and is firmly under the creative leadership of Jha himself.

It was initially rumoured that the film would be helmed by adman and filmmaker Sanjay Shetty. However, after three days of principal photography, Jha stepped in to direct the film himself — a move reminiscent of Aamir Khan’s directorial takeover of Taare Zameen Par in 2007. But unlike the well-documented tension that followed that change between Khan & Gupte, this transition has reportedly been collaborative, mutual, and grounded in mutual respect.

A source close to the production revealed, “Anshuman told the team, ‘We will only make this film once — let’s make it the best it can be, regardless of who directs.’ It was never about ego, but about clarity and vision on the animal lover vigilante universe.”

The film’s 2nd AD, Aura Chandel, shared further insight: "Anshuman has been deeply involved from day one — from casting international martial arts legends like Sunny Pang and Dan Chupong to the Indian cast members, to shaping the VFX, score, and narrative tone. Sanjay Sir and Anshuman share a mentor-mentee bond. He assisted Sanjay on ad shoots when he was just 16. There’s no bad blood — only a shared love for the project. The initial bits have been reshot, and the energy on set was incredibly focused.”

Industry insiders say that the decision stemmed from creative alignment, with Jha being most connected to the world and ethos of the Lakadbaggha franchise, which uniquely combines action with a strong message on animal welfare. Shetty has remained on the project as a creative consultant.

With this move, Jha joins the ranks of actor-directors like Clint Eastwood, Bradley Cooper, and most recently Dev Patel (Monkey Man) — artists who bring a deeply personal vision to their storytelling. As one crew member put it, “He’s not just making a film — he’s building a legacy for the voiceless.”

EXCLUSIVE: Here's why Sujoy Ghosh and his daughter Diya Annapurna Ghosh have been thanked in Kajol-starrer Maa: "Diya was bowled over by the fact that Ajay Devgn…"

The mythological-horror film Maa was released today, June 27, and it has caught attention due to the genre, trailer, concept and association of Kajol. The film begins with the mention of Sujoy Ghosh and his director-daughter Diya Annapurna Ghosh under ‘Special Thanks’. It's sure to make a lot of people curious about the same as Sujoy is not associated with the project in any capacity.

This writer, too, was very curious and reached out exclusively to Sujoy Ghosh to understand the reason behind his and Diya’s mention. Sujoy, who is currently in London, explained, “My daughter Diya held the rights to the title ‘Maa’. She wanted to make a film with that title. One day, Ajay called me and expressed the desire to have the title for his film. I asked Diya about it. She agreed to part with the title. Her script is still under development and it’ll take time before her film can go on floors. On the other hand, Ajay and his team were all set to roll. Hence, we decided to live and let live (smiles).”

He added, “We’ll now think of some other title for our film.”

Sujoy Ghosh also revealed, “Diya is a fan of Ajay Devgn. We are also his fans. Diya was bowled over by the fact that Ajay Devgn asked her for the title rights. It was a true fan moment for her (laughs).”

Maa is backed by Jio Studios and Devgn Films and is directed by Vishal Furia. It also stars Ronit Roy, Kherin Sharma, Indraneil Sengupta and Dibyendu Bhattacharya in leading roles.

Diya Annapurna Ghosh, meanwhile, debuted as a director with the Zee5 flick Bob Biswas (2021) starring Abhishek Bachchan and Chitrangda Singh. It was a spin-off to the 2012 acclaimed thriller, Kahaani, which was incidentally directed by Sujoy Ghosh.

As for Sujoy Ghosh, he last directed Jaane Jaan (2023), starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vijay Varma and Jaideep Ahlawat. It dropped directly on Netflix and was one of the most-viewed films on the streaming giant that year.

Emraan Hashmi resumes OG shooting after dengue recovery

Emraan Hashmi, who was diagnosed with dengue on May 28 while filming his upcoming pan-Indian film They Call Him OG, has recovered and is back on set. He has resumed shooting in Mumbai.

Emraan Hashmi shared, “I am back in action, and it feels good! I took some time off to recover from dengue, but now I am fully recovered and back on set. A big thank you to everyone for all the love and thoughtful messages! I am excited to get back to the hustle and bring something exciting to the screen soon.”

It is worth mentioning here that Bollywood Hungama was the first publication to report on Emraan's health. A well-placed industry source told us, "Emraan Hashmi was shooting for OG in Aarey Colony, Goregaon, Mumbai. That’s where he contracted the disease. He was not feeling well and had dengue-like symptoms. On the recommendation of the doctors, he got his tests done. The test confirmed that he is suffering from dengue."

Speaking of the project, OG will mark Emraan Hashmi’s debut in Telugu cinema. The film also stars Pawan Kalyan in the leading role, along with Priyanka Mohan as the female lead. Meanwhile, Emraan will essay the role of the antagonist. OG is all set to release in cinemas worldwide on September 25. It is produced by DVV Entertainment of RRR (2022) fame and directed by Sujeeth of Saaho (2019) fame.

EXCLUSIVE: No cuts, no ‘A’ rating - Kajol-starrer Maa is a RARE horror film to be awarded with a U/A certificate

After a fantastic last week for Bollywood thanks to the Aamir Khan-starrer Sitaare Zameen Par, the trade and industry now gears up for another exciting film, Maa. The trailer of the film caught attention due to the casting of Kajol, the horror genre, and the subject. The only concern was that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) might ask for several cuts and even after doing so, they might award an ‘A’ certificate to the film. But with this film, the CBFC has given a pleasant surprise to one and all.

As per the cut list, the CBFC has passed the film without a single audio or visual cut. A source told Bollywood Hungama, “With CBFC, one can never know. In Sitaare Zameen Par, the members asked for Michael Jackson to be replaced by ‘lovebirds’ and ‘Business Woman’ was changed to ‘Business Person’. That and the insistence on adding a quote from the Prime Minister led to a storm. Hence, the fear was that when a clean film like Sitaare Zameen Par gets such cuts, what would happen to Maa which is a horror flick.”

The source continued, “However, the CBFC’s Examining Committee didn’t cut a single shot, though a few scenes are disturbing. And that’s not all. They also allowed the film to have a U/A 16+ rating. This means that the under-18 crowd can also view this film.”

This is a rarity because most horror or supernatural films are given an ‘A’ certificate like Chhorii 2 (2025), 1920: Horrors Of The Heart (2023), Bhoot: Part One – The Haunted Ship (2020), Amavas (2019), Ghost (2019), Tumbbad (2018) etc. The only other supernatural Hindi film of recent times which didn’t get an adults-only certificate was Shaitaan (2024); like Maa, it was also backed by Devgn Films and Jio Studios. Horror comedies, meanwhile, are passed with a U/A certificate though.

Coming back to Maa, the CBFC, however, simply asked the makers to increase the disclaimer length up to readable time and also asked them to add about "anti-girl child and human sacrifice" details. Lastly, as per the rules in force since 2021, the makers were told to mention the title of the film in Hindi as well.

Once these changes were made, the censor certificate was handed to the makers of Maa on June 20. The length of the film, as mentioned on the censor certificate, is 135.35 minutes, that is, 2 hours 15 minutes and 35 seconds.

Maa releases in cinemas on June 27.

FWICE calls for ban on Diljit Dosanjh’s projects after Pakistani actress Hania Aamir appears in Sardaar Ji 3 trailer

After the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, the Indian film industry is treading cautiously, distancing itself from collaborations with Pakistani artists. The first major casualty was Abir Gulaal, which was set to mark Fawad Khan’s much-awaited Bollywood comeback alongside Vaani Kapoor. The film was shelved just days before its release.

Another film under scrutiny is Sardaar Ji 3, starring Diljit Dosanjh. Speculation around Pakistani actress Hania Aamir’s casting in the project was confirmed when the trailer dropped on June 23. In the same announcement, the makers clarified that the film would release exclusively overseas.

However, the move sparked widespread backlash online. Several netizens criticised both Diljit and the producers for casting a Pakistani actress amid heightened tensions between the two nations, especially following Hania Aamir’s condemnation of India’s counter-operation, Operation Sindoor. Now, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has called for a complete ban on all of Diljit Dosanjh’s upcoming projects.

FWICE President B.N. Tiwari told Hindustan Times, "By working with a Pakistani actor, Diljit has hurt Indian sentiments. He has disrespected the nation’s emotions and insulted the sacrifices of our brave soldiers. His preference for Pakistani talent over Indian artists raises serious questions about his loyalty and priorities."

He added, "We are aware that the film is not being released in India. But if they plan to do so in the future, we will oppose it and call for a ban. For now, the overseas release stands. That being said, Diljit’s collaboration with a Pakistani actor is something we cannot overlook. We have demanded a strict ban on all of his upcoming films, songs, or any other projects. The producers of Sardaar Ji 3 are also included in this ban."

Sardaar Ji 3 features Neeru Bajwa, Jasmin Bajwa, Manav Vij, and others in key roles. The film is scheduled for an overseas release on June 27.

Fire destroys Anupamaa set in Film City; AICWA demands judicial probe and FIR against makers

A massive fire broke out on the set of the popular television show Anupamaa, starring Rupali Ganguly, early Monday morning at Film City in Mumbai. According to reports, the blaze erupted around 5 AM and completely gutted the set before it could be doused by the fire brigade after a few hours. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Visuals of the fire were shared by news agency PTI on its X (formerly Twitter) account, showing the scale of the damage. The fire broke out before the day’s shooting was scheduled to begin around 7 AM. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) confirmed that its fire brigade received an alert at around 6 AM. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

In the aftermath of the incident, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) released a strongly worded statement condemning what it called the “ongoing negligence” in enforcing fire safety norms on sets. The association has demanded the immediate suspension of the Managing Director of Film City and the Labour Commissioner of Mumbai, alleging gross negligence and collusion that allow production houses to flout mandatory safety protocols.

AICWA President Suresh Shyamlal Gupta has also called upon Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to order a high-level judicial inquiry into the incident. In a separate post on X, AICWA further alleged the possibility of deliberate arson for insurance fraud, demanding that the probe also look into whether the fire was intentionally set by the producers or the channel to claim insurance money.

The association has gone a step further, urging authorities to file a criminal FIR against the producers, the production house, the broadcasting channel, the Film City MD, and the Labour Commissioner. It has also demanded that any production house or channel found violating fire safety norms be blacklisted immediately.

Sardaar Ji 3 faces heat over Pakistani actress Hania Aamir’s casting: Producer of Diljit Dosanjh starrer BREAKS SILENCE; says, “Shot before the Indo-Pak conflict”

Following widespread backlash over the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in Sardaar Ji 3, producer Gunbir Singh Sidhu has broken his silence. In a statement to India Today, Sidhu clarified the timeline of production and confirmed that the film will not see a theatrical release in India.

“The film was shot before the conflict with Pakistan. Keeping sentiments of Indians in mind, there will be no India release for the movie,” Sidhu said, referring to the rising tensions following the recent Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir, which claimed the lives of Indian soldiers and civilians.

There was huge growth on Saturday for Sitaare Zameen Par as Rs. 19.90 crores came in. This was on the cards as well when word of mouth spread around the film during evening and night shows. What junta says about a film is the most important factor and that’s what came into play for this Aamir Khan starrer for which the word of mouth is consistently good.

What’s heartening is the huge growth seen as from Rs. 10.70 crores on Friday, the film has now grown by over 85%. Of course, one also needs to consider the fact that this is happening from a decent number as the film has been released at over 3000+ screens which means there was huge capacity always at its disposal. Even now there is scope to grow further as the film is highly concentrated towards premium multiplexes where the moolah actually lies.

This RS Prasanna directed film currently stands at Rs. 30.60 crores and rest assured, it will have close to Rs. 55 crores weekend. From the kind of start that it had taken, this would be a very good positioning for the film. A Rs. 100 crores run would be a cakewalk for the film from here on and now it has to be seen where does it eventually land.

He recalled, “SRK sir kaafi time se soch rahe the iss cheez ko, jaisa mujhe pata laga hai, but Siddharth Anand bhai thoda hichak rahe honge ki chota part hai to offer after Jewel Thief. But Khan saab being Khan saab, he said I’ll talk to him. Ab unki baat kaun nakarega (SRK sir had been thinking about this for quite some time, as far as I know. But Siddharth (Anand) bhai was a bit hesitant to offer it since it was a small role after Jewel Thief. But Khan saab being Khan saab, he said, ‘I’ll talk to him.’ Now who could say no to him?.”

He went on to praise Shah Rukh Khan, expressing deep admiration for the superstar. He said, “I really like him. In all my interactions with him — in the five to seven times we've met — starting from Raees, where I shot with him for four to five days, and even after that, whenever we met, he always made me feel like I was the closest person to him. He’s a wonderful human being. He has some amazing qualities. Every time I’ve met him, he’s made me feel important.”

For those who may not know, Jaideep Ahlawat portrayed the main antagonist in Siddharth Anand's Jewel Thief, which starred Saif Ali Khan in the lead role. A heartfelt letter from the Elite Games Federation has gone viral on social media after the organization formally requested the Government of Maharashtra to grant tax-free status to the latest release, Aamir Khan starrer Sitaare Zameen Par. Sitaare Zameen Par has managed to do the unthinkable. The advance booking wasn’t upto the mark and the makers, in a unique strategy, decided not to have shows before 11:00 am on the day of release, possibly to avoid negativity over poor occupancy in these shows. The film opened at Rs. 10 crores, which was a fair opening but below par for a star like Aamir Khan. However, the positive word of mouth along with the credibility that Aamir enjoys has finally come into play. The film jumped dramatically on Saturday. The shows of Sunday also began to get full and looking at the demand, the multiplexes had to add post-midnight shows.

The trend of having shows at 1:00 am, 2:00 am and 3:00 am is a post-pandemic phenomenon. The 2021 Diwali biggie Sooryavanshi was the first film to have such shows at night. Later, Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022), Drishyam 2 (2022), Gadar 2 (2023), Animal (2023), Pathaan (2023), Jawan (2023), Stree 2 (2024), Chhaava (2025) etc. also got shows allotted at the unearthly hour due to huge turnout. Hence, these shows became synonymous with the fact that the film is doing exceedingly well.

Some of the theatres in Mumbai which added post-midnight shows of Sitaare Zameen Par to cope with the demand are PVR Oberoi Mall Goregaon (1:00 am), PVR Lower Parel (1:00 am), Maxus Kandivali (3:00 am and 6:00 am), PVR Sangam Andheri (1:05 am), Maxus Borivali (1:30 am, 3:00 am and 6:00 am), Metro Inox (1:00 am), PVR Orion Mall Panvel (1:10 am) etc.

Sitaare Zameen Par opened at Rs. 10.70 crores while on Day 2, it is expected to earn around Rs. 20 crores. The advance booking for Sunday is super-strong and a weekend of Rs. 50 crores is now certain. The Saturday trend and demand for post-midnight shows makes it clear that it would hold strongly on Monday as well.

What is also heartening is that on the day of release, Sitaare Zameen Par was performing better mainly in elite cinemas and A centres but now the mass audience has also come out in full force. As a result, a healthy lifetime and solid trending is expected from the perfectionists’ latest release in the long run.

R. Madhavan and wife Sarita rent out BKC apartment worth Rs 17.5 crores; flat to fetch estimated Rs 1.6 crores rental income over 2 years

Indian actor R. Madhavan and wife Sarita have given on rent a co-owned residential apartment located in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex for a starting monthly rent of Rs. 6.50 lakh, according to property registration documents reviewed by real estate platform squareyards.com on the website of the Inspector General of Registration (IGR). The leave and license agreement was officially registered in June 2025.

Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) is a planned commercial hub in Mumbai, developed to ease congestion in traditional business districts. It hosts a concentration of financial institutions, multinational companies, and consulates, making it one of the city’s most sought-after office markets. While primarily commercial, the surrounding areas have seen high-end residential development driven by proximity and infrastructure. Strong connectivity and consistent demand continue to keep property values elevated across segments.

According to property registration documents accessed by Square Yards, R. Madhavan and his wife Sarita have rented out a residential unit located in Signia Pearl, Bandra Kurla Complex. The rental agreement includes a security deposit of Rs. 39 lakh and was registered with a stamp duty of Rs. 47,000 and registration charges of Rs. 1,000.

As per Square Yards’ analysis, the lease tenure spans 24 months (two years), starting from the first week of June 2025, with a lock-in period of 16 months. The monthly rent starts at Rs. 6.50 lakh in the first year and escalates by 5% to approximately Rs. 6.83 lakh in the second year. Over the full term, the cumulative rental value is estimated at approximately Rs. 1.60 crore.

Madhavan and his wife acquired this property—measuring 388.55 sq. m. (~4,182 sq. ft.)—for a total value of Rs. 17.50 crore in July 2024. Based on the agreed rental terms and acquisition cost, the gross rental yield stands at approximately 4.5% for the first year, rising to around 4.7% in the second year of the lease.

R. Madhavan is an Indian actor and filmmaker known for his work predominantly in Tamil and Hindi cinema, with appearances in Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and English films as well. He established himself with successful Tamil films like Minnale (2001), Kannathil Muthamittal (2002), Anbe Sivam (2003), and Aaytha Ezhuthu (2004), while also making a mark in Hindi cinema with notable roles in Rang De Basanti (2006), Guru (2007), and the blockbuster 3 Idiots (2009). Is Ed Sheeran making his Bollywood singing debut in Shah Rukh Khan’s King? Here’s what we know!

British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has confirmed that he has recorded a Hindi track for an upcoming Shah Rukh Khan film, sparking a wave of speculation online. The revelation came in a behind-the-scenes video shared during the making of his latest single ‘Sapphire,’ which already featured a surprise cameo from the Bollywood superstar himself.

While the name of the film hasn’t been officially announced, fans are convinced that the project in question is King — Shah Rukh Khan’s next big theatrical release, directed by Siddharth Anand. The project has remained tightly under wraps since its announcement, but Sheeran’s comments and the recent developments around ‘Sapphire’ are now being viewed as strong indicators of a deeper collaboration.

After Ed Sheeran posted a behind-the-scenes video on his YouTube channel, a fan noticed a short segment where he’s seen recording the Punjabi version of his song 'Sapphire' with Arijit Singh. A fan club later shared this clip on Instagram, writing, “Can’t wait for the full Punjabi version! Check out the BTS on Ed’s YouTube channel. Ed mentioned a Hindi version too—so now I’m not sure if the other version is in Hindi or Punjabi.”

Ed Sheeran himself replied to the post and cleared the confusion. He wrote, “The Hindi song is for a Bollywood movie that Shah Rukh Khan is doing. This is the Punjabi version of Sapphire with Arijit. I’m just doing all languages at this point.”

It’s worth noting that Shah Rukh Khan’s appearance in ‘Sapphire’ has already stirred considerable buzz. The video also features Indian playback singer Arijit Singh.

This isn’t Ed Sheeran’s first brush with India. He recently got a Punjabi tattoo that says "Neelam," which translates to "sapphire" in English. During his recent tour in India, Sheeran mentioned how much he enjoys the vibrancy of Indian music, and there’s growing chatter that he might explore more collaborations within Indian cinema in the future.

King, which also stars Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Anil Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, and others, is the only Shah Rukh Khan project actively in production at the moment. The film has been billed as a gritty action drama and marks Suhana’s theatrical debut following her OTT entry with The Archies.

As for the Hindi song itself, details remain under wraps. It is unclear whether it will be part of the King soundtrack, a promotional crossover, or even a separate single linked to the film’s marketing campaign. EXCLUSIVE: Sitaare Zameen Par makers send UPDATED release strategy to cinemas for Friday – NO shows before 11 am, ONLY 4 shows between 11 am - 6 pm; normal showcasing from Saturday

Earlier in the day, Bollywood Hungama informed readers about the release strategy followed by the makers and distributors of Aamir Khan’s much-awaited film, Sitaare Zameen Par. It has now come to light that another set of requirements was given to the cinemas earlier a few hours before, that is on the morning of Wednesday, June 18.

An exhibition source told Bollywood Hungama, “In the revised mail, the distributor has informed all the theatres and multiplexes that on the day of release, that is, Friday, June 20, they can’t play any show before 11 am. And that’s not all. The theatres were also requested to play a maximum of 4 shows only of Sitaare Zameen Par between 11 am and 6 pm.”

The source continued, “After 6:00 pm, the cinema halls can play as many shows of Sitaare Zameen Par as they wish to. Moreover, this requirement is only for Friday. From Saturday, June 21 onwards, there’ll be no such demand and the cinemas can follow the requirement sent to them before.”

The source further said, “As per the older directive, there should be no show of the film before 9:00 am. They have asked cinema halls to opt for popular weekend pricing for the film. If the single screen wants to play the film, the exhibitor will be required to have all shows of Sitaare Zameen Par. It can't exhibit any other film. Two-screen cinemas need to allot 8 shows. Multiplexes with 3, 4, 5 and 6 screens need to play 11, 14, 16 and 19 shows a day respectively. For 7-screen multiplexes, 22 shows are a must while for 8-screen plexes, 25 shows are mandatory in a day. There should be 28 shows in 9-screen cinemas and for multiplexes with 10 screens and more, the requirement is 31 shows. This directive will be followed from June 21.”

Box Office Prediction: Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par to open in Rs. 8-10 crores range

3 years after the release of Laal Singh Chaddha,  Aamir Khan is returning with Sitaare Zameen Par. This is a really long wait when it comes to a film coming from a top superstar and one certainly expects the gap to be shorter. After all, even though Laal Singh Chaddha was a commercial as well as critical disaster, Aamir Khan had set the record for the biggest opening ever for a Bollywood film with Thugs Of Hindostan. Even though that film too failed eventually, a start of over Rs. 50 crores was unheard for and that did boil down to the superstardom that Aamir Khan boasts of.

Nonetheless, when it comes to Sitaare Zameen Par, it’s more of Aamir Khan, the actor, and not Aamir Khan, the superstar, who is coming on screen. The trailer of the film was good, though just like Taare Zameen Par it aims for the class audience. This means one doesn’t expect an all-around bumper opening for the film but instead something that just about sets the base and then lets word of mouth take over. In fact, earlier when a compact release of around 1000 odd screens was planned then it looked reasonable due to the subject. However the plans have changed now, and the film is going much wider with 3000+ screens.

This also means that even though occupancy would be a challenge for most part of the day till word-of-mouth kicks in (and hopefully positive) for evening and night shows, even limited footfalls per show per auditorium will ensure that the first day collections are at least reasonable. Though advance booking will give an indication of where the film eventually heads for, as of now an opening of Rs. 8-10 crores seem on the cards. Of course, word of mouth can take it much higher, but this is the minimal range in which this RS Prasanna directed film should operate on Friday.

The much-awaited film, Sitaare Zameen Par, is all set to release in 2 days and the excitement is tremendous. Yesterday, Bollywood Hungama broke the viral story of the censor cuts in the Aamir Khan-starrer. Today, we bring to you the release strategy opted for by the makers and distributors of Sitaare Zameen Par.

An exhibition source told Bollywood Hungama, "The distributors have sent a list of requirements to all the theatres, now that the censor certificate has been obtained. As per the requirement, there should be no show of the film before 9:00 am. They have asked cinema halls to opt for popular weekend pricing for the film. Usually, big films go for blockbuster pricing, when the rates are sky-high. Aamir, however, has not allowed it, probably as it would have made it unaffordable for a large chunk of the moviegoers."

The source further said, "The popular ticket pricing is a bit higher than regular pricing. But for a big film to not go for higher rates is a significant step."

The source shared more details on the screen requirement, "If the single screen wants to play the film, the exhibitor will be required to have all shows of Sitaare Zameen Par. It can't exhibit any other film. Two-screen cinemas need to allot 8 shows. Multiplexes with 3, 4, 5 and 6 screens need to play 11, 14, 16 and 19 shows a day respectively. For 7-screen multiplexes, 22 shows are a must while for 8-screen plexes, 25 shows are mandatory in a day. There should be 28 shows in 9-screen cinemas and for multiplexes with 10 screens and more, the requirement is 31 shows."

The advance booking of Sitaare Zameen Par was opened yesterday as soon as the CBFC passed the film. As expected, the makers have gone wide with the release. A final screen count is expected to be known by tomorrow, June 19.

Manasvi Mamgai's Hollywood production Captivated starring Al Pacino commences with blessings of Pope Leo XIV

In a rare and historic meeting at Vatican City, Hollywood legend Al Pacino and producer Manasvi Mamgai were officially received by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, marking a spiritual and symbolic beginning for the upcoming film Captivated. The project, backed by 32RED Entertainment, has commenced filming in Rome.

This meeting holds several firsts — Al Pacino, known globally for The Godfather and other iconic roles, became the first film star to be formally received by the newly appointed Pope Leo XIV. It also marked the first time Pacino met with a Pope. For Manasvi Mamgai, co-founder of 32RED Entertainment, the moment was equally significant as one of the few Indian-origin producers to receive such an audience.

As the situation intensifies, Saro forms an unexpected emotional bond with the boy’s mother, Abigail Harris — a connection that puts his entire empire at risk.

Captivated is produced by 32RED Entertainment, a Los Angeles and Mumbai-based studio founded in 2021 by Manasvi Mamgai and Michael Mammoliti. The company focuses on bold, globally resonant storytelling, and Captivated marks one of its most ambitious productions to date. Filming is underway and the release is slated for 2025.

Mannara Chopra’s father, Raman Rai Handa, passes away in Mumbai: “He was the pillar of strength for our family”

Actress Mannara Chopra’s father, Raman Rai Handa, passed away on Monday, June 16, at the age of 72. Handa, who was also the paternal uncle of Bollywood actors Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Parineeti Chopra, had reportedly been unwell in recent days. He was in Mumbai with his family at the time of his passing.

The Chopra family released an official statement expressing their grief. It read, “With profound grief and sorrow we inform the sad demise of our loving father who left us for his heavenly abode on 16/06/2025.” The statement further added, “He was the pillar of strength for our family.”

Mannara, a former Bigg Boss contestant and actress, mourned her father’s demise through an Instagram Story, echoing the sentiments of loss and respect shared by her family.

Raman Rai Handa was a lawyer at the Delhi High Court. He is survived by his wife Kamini Chopra and daughters Mannara and Mitali Chopra. Kamini is the paternal aunt of Priyanka and Parineeti Chopra.

Further details about the cause of death have not been disclosed by the family at this time.

SS Rajamouli builds grand Varanasi set in Hyderabad for SSMB29; Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra Jonas to resume shoot in Kenya: Reports

Filmmaker SS Rajamouli is currently busy with his upcoming project SSMB29, starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film is shaping up to be a visually ambitious cinematic experience. According to a report by Hindustan Times, the team has completed two major filming schedules and is now working on a critical segment set in Varanasi. Instead of shooting on location, Rajamouli has opted to recreate the holy city at Hyderabad’s Ramoji Film City. The reason: the logistical challenges of filming in Varanasi, one of India’s most densely populated and spiritually active cities.

The massive set is estimated to have cost nearly Rs 50 crores. Significant portions of the film, including action scenes featuring Mahesh Babu, will be shot here. Rajamouli's hallmark use of green screen technology and VFX will once again be central to his vision. Some of the most reputed Hollywood VFX studios have been brought on board to deliver world-class visuals, with a large part of the film's budget reportedly allocated to the graphics department.

In addition to Hyderabad, schedules in Odisha have also been completed. As per a report by Filmfare, the production is now gearing up for its first international schedule in Kenya, which was initially planned for March but had to be pushed. The Kenya schedule, slated for July, will feature Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra Jonas in sequences set against dense wilderness and a natural backdrop.

The film is also notable for marking Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ return to Indian cinema after a six-year hiatus. She was last seen in The Sky Is Pink (2019), and her comeback in a Rajamouli film is already generating strong interest among fans and industry insiders alike.
