Former TMKOC actress Jennifer Mistry seeks charge sheet against producer Asit Modi after reported legal win: “I may sit in protest”

Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal, who played Mrs Roshan in the popular sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC), has taken to social media to express her dissatisfaction with the pace of the legal proceedings following her sexual harassment case win against producer Asit Modi.

Jennifer, who exited the show in 2023, had filed a complaint against Modi last year. In a recent video posted on Instagram, she claims victory in the case but alleges the show's production team, Neela Films, is disregarding the verdict.

The former TMKOC actress has reportedly met with senior police officials at Powai and Hiranandani police stations, urging them to file a charge sheet against Modi. She has expressed frustration with the delay and threatened a public protest if the charge sheet isn't filed soon.

"I have given them an ultimatum," Mistry stated in the video. "If they don't do it quickly, especially the charge sheet work, I don't even know what I will do. It is possible that I may sit in protest when Draupadi Murmu ji [India's President] is coming here."

It is important to note that these are allegations made by Jennifer Mistry and the details of the court case have not been made public. Asit Modi has not yet issued a public statement regarding these claims.

Godzilla x Kong Box Office: Film stays quite good on Saturday as well, crosses Rs. 25 crores in 2 days

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire managed to have similar collections as Friday on Saturday as Rs. 12.50 crores* came in. On its opening day, which also was a partial holiday of Good Friday, the film had collected Rs. 13 crores* at the box office. The numbers have in fact come out to be somewhat lesser than Rs. 14 crores that was reported earlier. Still, what it has scored is a big enough number, especially when considering the fact that Godzilla-Kong franchise didn't really have huge footprints in India. That said, after this newest instalment, it will certainly etch its place amongst the big ones.

The film didn't have as huge an edge over Bollywood's Crew as it seemed till yesterday since it too had collected Rs. 10.21 crores. On Saturday, the Ekta Kapoor production has gone further which means the gap between Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and Crew has reduced further. The Hollywood biggie currently stands at Rs. 25.50 crores* and is still the bigger film though at an all-India level. However, in the core Hindi territories, it's Crew which is leading the show, and how.

It would now be interesting to see how does Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire pan out today. Now that it's a level playing field on Sunday with the initial euphoria around watching an action film settling down, the competition that it will have from Crew will be closely observed. That said, the fact also remains that the Hollywood biggie has found good appreciation from its target audience segment. As a result of that it will play on as well and along with Crew, it will build its case for finding itself in the Rs. 100 Crore Club during its lifetime.

Dev Patel’s acclaimed film Monkey Man might not make it on April 19 in cinemas in India; might release a week later, on April 26

Earlier this year, the trailer of Monkey Man dropped on the internet and it created a sensation across the world. It is directed by Dev Patel of Slumdog Millionaire (2009) fame and he also features in the lead role. The action and violence in the trailer and also the treatment caught the attention and generated tremendous excitement. It had its world premiere at South by Southwest on March 11 where it received a long standing ovation. The reaction at this film festival further added to the hype. It is all set to release in the USA and other major territories on April 5. In India, it was scheduled to release on April 19. But in the last few days, the assets dropped by Universal Pictures India on social media have stopped carrying the release date. Instead, 'Coming soon' is mentioned. Even on the popular ticket app BookMyShow, the release date of the film has vanished. It has led to fears that the film might not make it on April 19.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “The studio wants to bring Monkey Man to theatres in India on April 19. But it all depends on its clearance by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film has excessive violence and there are fears that some of its aspects might hurt the sentiments of the section of the audience. Hence, the Censor process is expected to take time.”

The source added, “Also, the Universal Studios team in the USA also needs to permit the changes asked by the CBFC. Once they approve, the local team will carry out the changes and only then, the team will announce the release date.”

The source further said, “If the process gets completed on time, Monkey Man will be released in India on April 19. Or else, it’ll release a week later, on April 26. A clearer picture will emerge in a week’s time, hopefully.”

Monkey Man is the story of a young man who unleashes a campaign of vengeance against the corrupt leaders who murdered his mother. Besides Dev Patel, it also stars Sharlto Copley, Sikandar Kher, Sobhita Dhulipala, Vipin Sharma and others. It was earlier scheduled to premiere directly on Netflix. But later, Jordan Peele of Get Out (2017) and Us (2019) fame saw the film and he acquired it with the belief that the film deserves a theatrical release.

Reports have been abuzz about the return of Imran Khan who has been on an infinite sabbatical from the industry. The actor, of late, has been making many appearances at events, and is often accompanied by Lekha Washington. With Imran recently confirming about his relationship with Washington after several rumours, now we hear that the couple will be living together in Mumbai in the apartment of Karan Johar.

If reports are to be believed, Imran Khan and Lekha Washington have rented the Bandra flat of filmmaker Karan Johar for a whopping Rs. 9 lakhs. As per Zapkey, this new residence located in the third-floor of Clefepete apartments boasts of a sea view and is said to be in close proximity to one of the houses which was rented by Aamir Khan earlier. According to this real estate data platform, the agreement, dated for March 20, 2024, is expected to have been signed for a period of three years.

The rumours of Imran Khan and Lekha Washington dating have been doing the rounds for quite some years, possibly ever since he announced his separation from wife Avantika Malik. In an interaction with Vogue, the Jaane Tu actor confirmed his relationship status and added, “The rumors about my romantic involvement with Lekha Washington are indeed true. I have been divorced and separated since February 2019.”

For the unversed, Imran Khan was previously married to Avantika Malik. The childhood sweethearts tied the knot in 2011 and in 2014, the couple became parents to a daughter, Imara Malik Khan. In 2019, they decided to part ways due to irreconcilable differences. On the other hand, Lekha Washington too was married to journalist Pablo Chaterji but they parted ways too.

On the work front, Imran Khan was last seen in Katti Batti alongside Kangana Ranaut in 2015. Whereas, Lekha Washington who is known for her stints in South cinema, also dabbles with other artistic works including sculpting.

Article 370 Box Office: Yami Gautam starrer crosses Rs. 80 crores milestone in 5 weeks

Article 370 managed to hang in out there for yet another week as Rs. 2.69 crores came in. In the week before, it had collected Rs. 4.77 crores, so the drop is a little lesser than 50%. That’s also because there was partial holiday of Holi last week and hence the film managed to hold on a little better. Still, films typically fall around 70% on a week by week basis, so this is a good hold as it is.

What further makes the film’s run special is the fact that there have been more than half a dozen notable films that have released since it arrived. Shaitaan has been doing well, Yodha did bring in some numbers, then last week’s Madgaon Express and Swatantrya Veer Savarkar also collected around Rs. 25 crores between them, and there was competition from Hollywood too in the form of Kung Fu Panda 4. Still, Article 370 has managed to stay in circulation and attracted some sort of footfalls, at least.

This week, the competition is much stronger though with Crew and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire arriving. This means it would be tough to stay around 50% of last week’s number. One can expect at least a crore more to come in though and that should help push the numbers further ahead of the Rs. 81.02 crores mark. The Yami Gautam film has done its job though and everything that’s coming in currently are bonus numbers. One now waits to see the kind of response that it gets on OTT once it premieres there in a few weeks from now.

Mirzapur producer Ritesh Sidhwani teases return of Divyenndu’s Munna Tripathi in Season 3: “There's something interesting for…”

The highly anticipated return of the gripping crime drama series, Mirzapur, has been the talk of the town since its second season wrapped up. Fans have been eagerly waiting to see what twists and turns await them in the upcoming season, especially after Amazon Prime dropped the first glimpse at a recent event. Amid this, producer Ritesh Sidhwani of Excel Entertainment has hinted at the return of a beloved character.

During a lively discussion at the Film Companion Front Row, producer Ritesh Sidhwani was asked about the possibility of seeing Munna Tripathi, portrayed by Divyenndu, back in action for Mirzapur Season 3. While initially, it seemed like a distant dream after the character's demise in the previous season, Sidhwani's response sparked excitement among fans.

"Unfortunately, Munna Tripathi can't come back into the series the way it is," Sidhwani revealed to the eager audience. However, he tantalisingly added, "But maybe there's something interesting for which you will have to wait, but there is something where Munna will enter back into audiences' lives."

Divyenndu's portrayal of the formidable gangster in Mirzapur has garnered widespread acclaim, making Munna Tripathi a memorable and integral part of the series. His character's demise in the second season left viewers shocked and craving for more.

Mirzapur 3 promises to deliver another gripping chapter in the saga, with an ensemble cast including the stellar performances of Pankaj Tripathi, Rasika Dugal, Ali Fazal, Shweta Tripathi, and Vijay Varma.

Sakshi Tanwar BREAKS SILENCE on reports of she playing Ravana’s wife in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayan

Is the very talented Sakshi Tanwar a part of Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayan? Reports surfaced recently claiming she was cast as Yash’s co-star.

Sakshi was last seen in the Netflix series Mai. With its stretched-out story of a mother’s revenge on her daughter’s assassins (Sridevi and Raveena Tandon got there first in Mom and Matr) Mai just ended up being a messy melodrama about an angry mother. If it wasn’t for Sakshi Tanwar’s ‘Mum hoge kamyaab’ performance, Mai wouldn’t be worth mentioning.

Now we hear that she is playing Mandodari in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayan. If Valmiki was still around he would be happy to write another Ramayan about innumerable rumours and lies being spread about director Nitesh Tiwari’s proposed adaptation of the Ramayan.

The latest lie about the casting of the Ramayan concerns Ravana’s wife. While Ravana is reportedly played by Yash (no confirmation on this from the actor or the producers) a new “news” report doing the rounds insisted that Sakshi Tanwar is playing Ravana’s wife.

Further to that, reports also insisted that Yash’s fans are upset about this, as the unfathomably talented Sakshi Tanwar did not measure up to Yash’s stardom.

This writer touched base with Sakshi. Her response was: “I haven’t been approached for the part.”

Hope this kills one more outrageous rumour about the casting in Ramayan. Until the next one pops up.

Box Office: Madgaon Express and Swatantrya Veer Savarkar have stable weekdays, all eyes on second week hold

It was a fair first week for both Madgaon Express and Swatantrya Veer Savarkar as their Thursday collections were not too far off from their Friday opening. While this does demonstrate stability, the fact also remains that theatrically one expects more business from these films. There is a fair cost associated with both the films and while with ancillary rights coming into picture, they should potentially break even, considering the fact that there are merits associated as well, one does expect box office returns to be there as well.

Let’s talk about Madgaon Express first. The film opened at Rs. 1.63 crores and on Thursday it stood at Rs. 1.30 crores. This is good from the hold perspective, though from absolute numbers perspective it would have been nicer if Tuesday to Thursday collections would actually have been greater than Friday. That would have ensured that despite the new releases this week, the film would have continued to bring in consistent collections. Today, the numbers should grow again due to partial holiday of Good Friday and perhaps go past even Rs. 1.63 crores. That would be good and then everything would boil down to numbers that come over rest of the weekend. Currently, the first week stands at Rs. 13.85 crores.

Ditto for Swatantrya Veer Savarkar too which will have a similar trending today after it opened at Rs. 1.10 crores on Friday and then closed at Rs. 1.05 crore on Thursday. The drop here is even lesser but then one expected the film to break out by now, given the theme. This one is a polished classy film and one can see that there is good budget allocated to it. Given the kind of appreciation that has come the way of this Randeep Hooda starrer, one expects that it goes much beyond Rs. 11.37 crores that it has collected so far.
