Wednesday surpasses Stranger Things with biggest opening for an English language series on Netflix

Jenna Ortega starrer Wednesday set a new record at Netflix surpassing Stranger Things to become the English language series with the biggest debut on Netflix.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the Addams Family offshoot racked up 341.2 million hours of viewing worldwide last week, according to Netflix’s internal measurement. That tops the 335 million hours for Stranger Things 4 the week of May 30-June 5 as the best week for any English language series on the streamer.

Wednesday hit No. 1 in 83 countries for the week, tying Stranger Things 4. As per the report, Netflix estimates that more than 50 million households worldwide watched at least part of the series, dividing the total viewing by the season’s running time of about six hours.

Meanwhile, South Korean hit thriller Squid Game stays put with its all-time mark on Netflix with 571.76 million hours viewed for the week of September 27-October 3, 2021. Netflix's other major hit this year The Jeffrey Dahmer Story never garnered around 299 million in one week.

Speaking of Wednesday, the show is described as a "sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery" series which will follow Wednesday as she navigates life at Nevermore Academy, a boarding school for outcasts. The teen "attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore," per the synopsis.

In addition to Ortega, Wednesday stars Gwendoline Christie, Jamie McShane, Percy Hynes White, Hunter Doohan, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Naomi J Ogawa, Moosa Mostafa, Georgie Farmer and Riki Lindhome. Christina Ricci, who played Wednesday in the 1990s Addams Family movies, along with Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Fred Armisen and Isaac Ordonez.

The Kashmir Files Row: After IFFI jury head Nadav Lapid slammed the film, Israel Counsel General Kobbi Shoshani apologizes to Anupam Kher personally

The IFFI jury head and Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid made a rather powerful statement after watching one of the biggest releases of the year, The Kashmir Files. The filmmaker was reportedly left quite ‘shocked’ after watching this Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi starrer and even accused it to be a part of a ‘propoganda’ film and went on to call it ‘vulgar’. While many filmmakers, actors, and other members of the fraternity lashed out on Lapid for making these comments, now Israel Counsel General Kobbi Shoshani have also extended his support for the same.

Anupam Kher recently met up with Israel Counsel General Kobbi Shoshani and shared a video of the same on his social media. The actor also shared in this post about Mr. Shoshani visiting his school Actor Prepares, which is an educational institute for aspiring actors and actresses. He expressed his gratitude towards the Israel Counsel General adding, “Thank you dearest @KobbiShoshani, Counsel General of #Israel in Mumbai for visiting my school @actorprepares. In the video posted by Kher, Israel Counsel General Kobbi Shoshani not only revealed that he saw the film The Kashmir Files, a year ago and also expressed his love for the film. He not only apologized for the comment made by Nadav Lapid during IFFI 2022 but also added that his was a private opinion that does not represent the entire country of Israel. He went on assert that it is possibly the opinion of a minority group.

Not too long ago, after Lapid made his comments about the film, Anupam Kher too shared a video slamming the filmmaker for making such nasty remarks about the Vivek Agnihotri directorial, For the unversed, The Kashmir Files is inspired by real life events which includes the exodus of Kashmiri pandits from the state.

Sara Ali Khan joins Tiger Shroff as the leading lady for an action thriller

Known for his power packed roles, action hero Tiger Shroff was brought on board by filmmaker Jagan Shakti for his next, which is expected to be an action thriller. Recent reports suggest that actress Sara Ali Khan has been roped in as the leading lady for this venture and she will be joining the team soon to kick off work on it. Produced by Jackky Bhagnani, the film is expected to be a quintessential commercial potboiler as Tiger becomes the man fighting all odds to ensure that the good wins over evil.

As per reports in Pinkvilla, with Sara Ali Khan joining the cast, the makers are thrilled because they were keen on bringing a new onscreen pairing on board. While Sara has acted with heroes like the late Sushant Singh Rajput, Kartik Aaryan, Varun Dhawan, Ranveer Singh, in the past, the actress will be paired opposite Tiger for the first time in a film. Furthermore, reports also have it that the film is expected to go on floors on December 10 and will be shot across India as well as Europe.

The mission-based film is said to be currently in the pre-production stage. These reports stated that producer Jackky Bhagnani and Jagan Shakti are working towards making a big budget action thriller with some powerful adrenaline pumping stunts in the film and never-seen-before sequences. While the makers are in search for the actor who will essay the role of antagonist, an official announcement of the casting is expected to be made in next few days. Produced under the banner Pooja Entertainment, the film is said to be having a theatrical release.

Box Office: Drishyam 2 and Bhediya have another day close to 9 crores combined total - Tuesday updates

It was a stable day for both Drishyam 2 and Bhediya as yet again close to Rs. 9 crores came in. On Monday the Rs. 9 crores combined total had been comfortably scored between the two movies and now with Tuesday also staying in its vicinity, it’s good news for the exhibitors at least. There have hardly been any weekdays with a score like this and it’s happening for 13 days now ever since the release of Drishyam 2, which is heartening.

It’s the Ajay Devgn starrer which is continuing to stay in the lead and that was evident yesterday as well when Rs. 5.35 crores* came in. To have over Rs. 5 crores come in on a daily basis is really good and if the trend continues today and tomorrow as well then it would be simply phenomenal. It may so happen though that things do dip a bit on Thursday at least but then there would definitely be stability on Friday with things going on an upswing on Saturday and Sunday. So far; the film had collected Rs. 154.64 crores* and by Saturday, it will go past the Rs. 175 crores milestone.

Meanwhile, the first major target for Bhediya is to go past the Rs. 50 crores mark and hopefully that would happen by this Sunday. The film collected Rs. 3.50 crores* on Tuesday and those are stable numbers when compared to Rs. 3.85 crores that had been gathered on Monday. That indicates yet another couple of days where the numbers will stay over the Rs. 3 crores mark at least. The Varun Dhawan led creature comedy has accumulated Rs. 35.90 crores* so far and as long as it maintains this trajectory and then keeps the hold in the second weekend as well (despite the release of An Action Hero), it will hit the Rs. 50 crores mark in 10 days. By the look of things, it will do that as the fun element should work with the family audiences over the weekend.

Kriti Sanon breaks her silence on dating rumous with Prabhas; says, “Its neither Pyaar, nor PR”

A few days back, the Bhediya actors Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon were seen on a popular television show promoting the film. In the heat of the moment, Varun made a comment which has since led to rumours of Kriti dating her Adipurush co-star Prabhas. Interestingly, Kriti has been the target of many dating rumours and speculations although there has been nothing concrete about them. While this was brushed off as a bad marketing stunt, the speculations got stronger when Varun, teased her.

Now, clarifying the rumours that started off post this episode, a source close to the development told a leading portal, “Varun and Kriti share an amicable bond and they often pull each other’s leg. That tease by Varun was just a way of him taking Kriti’s case as he knew these rumours were baseless. Kriti and Prabhas are not seeing each other. They share a close bond as co-stars and really respect each other, but that’s just it.”

If that wasn’t enough, Kriti Sanon as well, who usually stays away from such topics, decided to break her silence. While, the rumours have finally been put to rest, on the work front, Kriti was recently seen in the film Bhediya which has been performing well at the box office. Besides this, the actress also recently unveiled the teaser of her upcoming next Shehzada alongside Kartik Aaryan. Drishyam 2 Overseas Box Office: Film collects USD 254k on second weekend in U.A.E/G.C.C; total collects at USD 1.16 mil.

The Ajay Devgn starrer Drishyam 2 was released a while back and since then there has been no stopping the film at the box office. Also starring Akshaye Khanna, Tabu, and Shreya Saran the film, which has been dominating the domestic box office, has been enjoying a similar fate in the overseas markets as well. In fact, after a stellar opening weekend the business of Drishyam 2 has managed to hold strong on its second weekend.

In the overseas market of U.A.E/G.C.C Drishyam 2 has managed to draw in USD 254k [Rs. 2.07 cr] over its second weekend. Released across 4150 screens (domestic 3302 screens + overseas 858+ screens) the total collections of the film within this market are pegged at a massive USD 1.16 million [Rs.  9.47 cr] nearly 29% up from its first week collection of USD 902k [Rs. 7.36 cr].

As of now, Drishyam 2 continues its box office journey within the U.A.E/G.C.C market, despite the fact that the new release Bhediya has been doing well simultaneously. Given the current trend trade, predictions state that the business of Drishyam 2 will continue to see growth well into its third week running.

The Kashmir Files row at IFFI: Darshan Kumaar defends Vivek Agnihotri directorial; says, “Film is not about vulgarity. It is the reality”

The IFFI jury’s head Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid’s outburst against Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files at the festival’s closing ceremony—Lapid called the film vulgar and inappropriate—has shocked the ardent supporters of the film, including its leading man Darshan Kumaar.

Says Darshan, “Everyone has his own individual opinions on anything he sees and how he perceives it. But one can’t deny the fact that The Kashmir Files is a film which has depicted the actual plight of the dispossessed homeless Kashmiri Pandit community who are still fighting for justice against the brutal acts of terrorism. This film is not about vulgarity. It’s the reality.”

Darshan admits he didn't know much about Kashmiri Pandits when he was signed for The Kashmir Files. “I really feel ashamed of myself. Just like today's audience, I too was confused and unaware. I only realised when Vivek ji and Pallavi Ma'am showed me those videos of the first-generation victims. I was totally taken aback and that’s when I thought the truth should be brought forward and I wanted to be a part of this journey.”

The Kashmir Files has changed Darshan. “I feel I'm not the same person anymore. This film has changed me from within. Just like the pandemic where one virus started in one country and spread all over the world ... It taught us to love and care of each other ... The recent Russian-Ukraine war led to a complete market crash which shows the world is one. Similarly, this movie shows us the brutal truth and actual pain that inhumanity causes. Its heart wrenching. So this movie has enlightened not only me but the entire public and gives a message to live in harmony and make this world a better place to live in.”

Blurr trailer: Taapsee Pannu is desperate to uncover her twin sister’s death before losing her eyesight in this thriller

Akshay Kumar has become the go-to actor for Bollywood when it comes to films with nationalistic themes. Similarly, over the last few years, Taapsee Pannu has become a thriller specialist. After Badla, Game Over, Haseen Dilruba, Looop Lapeta and Dobaaraa, we can now add Blurr in the list. The film is the Hindi adaptation of the Spanish thriller Julia’s Eyes.

The film’s trailer, which is just released, reveals that it deals with the story of twins Gayatri and Gautami, both played by Taapsee Pannu. Gayatri’s life turns upside down when Gautami, who was visually challenged, dies by suicide, at least this is what the cops conclude.

Gayatri, however, is sure that her sister can’t end her life and starts investigating her death. Her husband (Gulshan Devaiah) doesn’t support her though as he is satisfied with the version of the cops. What’s worse for Gayatri is that she too is slowly losing her eyesight.

The trailer makes it clear that Blurr goes onto the thriller mode right from the start. Apart from the story, that’s both intriguing and tragic, the technical departments, including the colour grading, gets your attention. The trailer ends on a creepy note when a character is throwing light from the torch on Gayatri’s face but all she can see is darkness.

Taapsee appears in good form as a woman troubled by multiple reasons. The rest of the actors don’t get much screentime in the trailer.

Directed by Ajay Bahl and produced by Tony D’Souza, Pradeep Sharma and Manav Durga, Blurr will stream on Zee 5 from December 9.

Box Office: Over Rs. 9 crores come between Drishyam 2 and Bhediya - Monday updates

Between Drishyam 2 and Bhediya, over Rs. 9 crores came at the box office on Monday. When looked at from the exhibitors standpoint, this is a good enough number since box office has been struggling to get this much on Fridays with the release of a major biggie and here such numbers are been accumulated on a Monday. Yes, more was expected since Bhediya is a biggie too and hence a major share of contribution is expected out of it. However, Drishyam 2 is compensating for that to an extent.

Let’s talk about Drishyam 2 first. The film had turned out to be a blockbuster and is behaving as if there is no competition around it. Continuing to run strong for days and days in succession, it managed to have a superb hold on Monday with Rs. 5.50 crores* coming in. Now that’s great as the fall from Monday (Rs. 7.87 crores) is very reasonable. Not that it’s surprising since the weekend had seen so much growth that a stability like this was a given. The Ajay Devgn starrer has now reached Rs. 149.40 crores* and as predicted earlier itself, an entry into the Rs. 200 Crore Club is imminent.

As for Bhediya, the first major milestone is to score a half century and it should reach there inside 10 days. Of course, it would have been all the more comforting for all associated with the film had it happened inside the first week itself. After all, the film was appreciated and the reports from neutral audience are decent to good as well. However, there is a choice available in the form of Drishyam 2 as well and that’s dividing the audience. The impact was felt on Monday when Rs. 3.85 crores came in, whereas a score above Rs. 5 crores would have been far more optimal. So far, the creature comedy has collected Rs. 32.40 crores and Rs. 40 crores mark should be crossed before end of week.

Sanjay Gupta confirms that Fardeen Khan’s comeback film Visfot, co-starring Riteish Deshmukh, will skip theatrical release and premiere directly on an OTT platform

Last year, in September 2021, it was announced that Fardeen Khan is all set to make a grand comeback with Visfot. Co-starring Riteish Deshmukh, it is directed by Kookie Gulati and is produced by Sanjay Gupta. The film was expected to be released in cinemas but recently, Sanjay Gupta revealed that Fardeen Khan’s comeback movie will directly arrive on a streaming site.

In an interaction with mid-day, Sanjay Gupta confirmed that Visfot will skip a theatrical release and premiere directly on OTT in 2023 due to unfavourable box office conditions. It is an official remake of the 2012 Venezuelan film, Rock, Paper, Scissors.

Reportedly, Riteish plays a pilot in the film whose son gets kidnapped by Fardeen’s character. In an interview earlier this year, Fardeen Khan revealed that he plays a guy from Dongri in the film. In fact, the film was even shot in the South Mumbai locality. Besides Fardeen Khan and Riteish Deshmukh, Visfot also stars Priya Bapat, Krystle D'Souza, Seema Bapat and Sheeba Chadha. Along with Sanjay Gupta, Bhushan Kumar has also backed this film.

Sanjay Gupta also revealed to mid-day that he’ll also release his directorial venture, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Meezaan Jafri, on a digital platform directly. When asked the reason to avoid a theatrical run for his films, he said, “We have no illusion of taking these movies to theatres and making big numbers. I was clear that it would take a minimum of two years for [Bollywood to recover after the pandemic].”

Sanjay Gupta’s directorial venture was tentatively titled The Miranda Brothers. It is set in Goa and is a story of two brothers. Sahher Bambba also features in this film, whose dialogues are penned by Milap Zaveri.

And that’s not all. Sanjay Gupta revealed that his production house will come up with three more films, all meant for digital releases. Out of these three, he’ll direct one film, which is a black comedy. As for the other two films, one is set in Chandni Chowk while the other is a comedy thriller.

Sanjay Gupta’s last release was Mumbai Saga, starring John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi. It was released on March 19, 2021, when the Delta wave of Covid-19 had reared its ugly head.

The drop was bigger than expected and Bhediya had to stay in the Rs. 5 crore range to have a chance at the box office in the long run.

The drop has come across the board, be it single screens or multiplexes. Bhediya is finding it tough to sustain itself in the national multiplex chains even though its target audience is in metros. The drop and weekend trend indicate that the word of mouth on the ground is a lot different from what we see in the digital world.

Bhediya’s four-day total now stands at around Rs. 32 crores, and the movie is looking at an opening week collection of Rs. 40 crores. The lifetime business of Bhediya will depend on the second weekend trend, but the film is certain to stay below the Rs. 70 crore number.

The film had managed to receive a positive response from the critics as well as the audience. Today, on November 28, the Shah Rukh Khan starrer turned 19. To mark the occasion and celebrate the milestone, KJo took to his verified social media handle and shared a post dedicated to the film.

Interestingly, the filmmaker dropped a photo dump featuring some BTS shots from the sets of the film. In the first monochrome picture, Karan and Shah Rukh, along with a couple of crew members can be seen discussing a scene. In the second photo, Preity Zinta and Saif Ali Khan can be seen giving funny poses for the camera. On the other hand, in the third shot, SRK can be seen handling a camera around Karan. The fourth photo, which seems to be candid, features director Nikkhil Advani. Meanwhile, the last blurry photo of the dump sees Karan giving a hug to child artist Athit Naik.

Instagramming the post, the director-producer wrote a heart-warming caption, which read, “An entire lifetime of memories, in a heartbeat! This film gave so much more than just that - it gave me joy, unbreakable bonds, a different lens for story telling and of course - the last film set I could be on with my father. And for that, I will forever be grateful to this film,” followed by a heart emoticon along with a 19 Year Of Kal Ho Naa Ho hashtag.

Within a couple of hours, the post garnered love from Karan’s peers from the industry. “So glad I was part of kal Ho Naa Ho,” wrote Sanjay Kapoor while actor Abhishek Bajaj commented, “Film with full of magic.” Director Siddharth Malhotra recalled his experience and wrote, “fondest memories of mine too as an assistant!”

Released in 2003, KHNH is a romantic comedy. The film had won several accolades including two National Awards.

BREAKING: Sanjana Sanghi to feature alongside Pankaj Tripathi in Pink director Anirudh Roy Choudhary’s untitled next

Just a couple of days back, the Dil Bechara actress Sanjana Sanghi had taken to her social media sharing a glimpse of her reading what seemed to be a script. In fact, the actress even teased her fans to take a guess at her next project. Well, Bollywood Hungama has now exclusively learnt that Sanjana will be seen in Pink director Anirudh Roy Choudhary’s untitled next.

Confirming the same a source close to the developments tells Bollywood Hungama, “Yes, Sanjana has been signed on for the venture and will be seen sharing screens space with Pankaj Tripathi and Parvathy Thiruvothu. Besides these three, the film will also include a few other names, which the makers are keeping under wraps for now.” Ask for more details about the project and the source continues, “The untitled venture will be directed by Anirudh Roy Choudhary of Pink fame, and will be produced under the Wiz Films banner which is also developing the docu-series on Salman Khan, Beyond The Star.”

As for the shoot and eventual release of the film the source further adds, “Right now only the cast and story have been locked. Pre-production will begin shortly. For now, an official announcement of the venture will be made in the coming days.”

Drishyam 2 Box Office: Ajay Devgn starrer collects Rs. 17.32 cr on Day 10; emerges as Bollywood's second highest second Sunday grosser of 2022

The Ajay Devgn starrer Drishyam 2 released a while back and since then there has been no stopping the film at the box office. A sequel to the 2015 release, Drishyam 2 that also stars Akshaye Khanna, Tabu and Shreya Saran has been seeing good growth in collections after receiving positive feedback from the critics and audience alike. In fact, the business of Drishyam 2 has managed to hold stead over its second weekend despite, the fact that he film faced competition from the new release Bhediya.

In this box office report, we look at the second Sunday collections of Drishyam 2 while comparing the same to previous releases of 2022. Collecting a massive Rs. 17.32 cr on Day 10, Drishyam 2 has now emerged as the second highest second Sunday non-dubbed Hindi grosser. On the other hand when compared to all releases, Drishyam 2 takes the fourth spot, behind previous releases like the Kashmir Files which collected Rs. 26.20 cr, KGF – Chapter 2 which collected Rs. 22.68 cr, and RRR which had collected Rs. 20.50 cr. If that was not enough, the second Sunday business of Drishyam 2 has managed to eclipse certain other previous releases like Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, which collected Rs. 12.77 cr, Gangubai Kathiawadi that collected Rs. 10.08 cr, JugJugg Jeeyo, which collected Rs. 6.10 cr, and Samrat Prithviraj which had collected Rs. 3.25 cr.

Currently, Drishyam 2 continues to enjoy the audiences favour despite the new release Bhediya hitting screens. Going by the current trend, trade predictions state that Drishyam 2 will continue its steady march at the box office over its second week. In fact, it will come as no surprise if the overall business of the film eventually draws closer to the Rs. 170 cr mark by the end of its second week.

Puneet Issar files complaint against staff who committed a fraud of Rs. 17 lakhs; Cyber Cell makes arrests

On November 25, the Cyber Cell Division of Mumbai police arrested an ex-staff member of Puneet Issar after the former allegedly tried to rob his boss of Rs. 17 lakhs. This staff member named Abhishek Narayan is said to have quit before committing the crime and hacked the filmmaker-actor’s email ID for the con. When the suspicious filmmaker-actor approached the police, the latter nabbed the culprit from the Madh area of Mumbai with the help of his bank details.

Talking about the incident, the Mumbai police revealed that Abhishek Narayan, who worked for Puneet Issar as his light man, had broken into the email account of the actor after he quit his job. He sent an email to the NCPA (National Centre of Performing Arts) where the actor was supposed to hold his play Jai Shri Ram in January 2023. In the email sent by Narayan, he requested the NCPA authorities to cancel the play and asked for a refund which was worth Rs. 17 lakhs, that was paid to them as an advance. When Puneet attempted to login to his account, he was unable to do so and after growing suspicious about it, he approached the Cyber Cell Division at the Oshiwara Police station.

As per reports, the police immediately took action and made the arrest within 24 hours of the crime. After his complaint was registered, the police contacted the NCPA authorities to investigate the matter. With their help, the police retrieved details of the bank account in which the money was transferred. Along with that, they also received the phone number of the accused and immediately tracked down his location. From what we hear, while the Puneet Issar used an iPhone, the accused was using a Chinese model to hack the email ID.

Cirkus teaser: One Rohit Shetty and two Ranveer Singhs succeed in building up excitement for the mad comedy

The much awaited and hyped teaser of Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus throws a surprise. Instead of showing a glimpse of the movie, which teasers normally do, this one has its long list of cast speaking about what one can expect from the movie.

So we have two Ranveer Singhs and Varun Sharmas, along with Pooja Hegde, Jacqueline Fernandez, Johnny Lever, Sanjay Mishra, Manoj Tiwari, Tiku Talsania, Brijendra Kala, Siddharth Jadhav and Ashwini Kalsekar highlighting that the film is based in the 1960s when there was no internet and social media.

However, despite providing info about the film, the teaser of Cirkus, as expected from a Shetty comedy, is also filled with humour. The joke on Panvel and Johnny Lever being called Malinga are noteworthy moments.

Cirkus is adapted from William Shakespeare’s classic story The Comedy Of Errors. It’s the story of two set of twins who get interchanged during childhood and how this leads to chaos when they grow up.

Cirkus is Ranveer’s second full-fledged role in a movie directed by Shetty after Simmba. He played a cameo, along with Ajay Devgn, in the filmmaker’s last outing Sooryavanshi.

Produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series and Rohit Shetty Productionz, the keenly awaited trailer of Cirkus will drop on December 2, while the film will be released during the Christmas period on December 23.

Cirkus Teaser: Makers to release teaser of Ranveer Singh’s Rohit Shetty directorial to release tomorrow

Earlier this month Bollywood Hungama was the first to report that the promotions for the Ranveer Singh starrer Cirkus would begin in December. In fact, we had reported that the makers of the Rohit Shetty directorial were planning an intensive three to four week promotion campaign that would include a host of activities. Well, earlier today evening the makers announced that the teaser of Cirkus would be released tomorrow, November 28.

Taking to the micro blogging site Twitter Ranveer Singh made a formal announcement of the teaser launch saying, “Let the madness begin! Teaser out tomorrow! #CirkusThisChristmas #RohitShetty @hegdepooja @Asli_Jacqueline @varunsharma90”. Along with the tweet, the actor share a few images of the cast as well.

While we cant wait to watch the teaser of Cirkus, the trailer of the film will be released as scheduled in the first week of December, with further promotions commencing after that. As for the film itself, Cirkus will be Shetty and Singh’s second collaboration, after 2018’s Simmba and the latter’s cameo in Sooryavanshi, which was released in 2021. Ranveer will be seen playing a double role for the first time. The ensemble star cast of Cirkus also features a bunch of talented actors, including Pooja Hegde, Jacqueline Fernandez, Johnny Lever, Sanjay Mishra, Varun Sharma, Tiku Talsania, and Vrajesh Hirjee.

Bhediya Box Office Estimate Day 3: Varun Dhawan-Kriti Sanon starrer collects Rs. 11 crores on Sunday; opening weekend of Rs. 28 crores

Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon's creature comedy, Bhediya has seen an upward trend in its opening weekend though the overall 3-day total continued to stay at lower levels. The movie jumped by around 30 percent on Saturday and 15 percent on Sunday. According to early estimates, Bhediya is looking to collect in the range of Rs. 10.25 to 11.25 crores on its third day, taking the opening weekend total in the Rs. 28 crore range.

The jumps have come in the multiplexes, however, the single screens continued to stay at lower levels. While an upward trend has come, the real test for Bhediya begins tomorrow, as a stronghold of Rs. 5 crores or more is a must for it to sustain in the long run. The opening weekend of Bhediya is lower than Varun's last release, Jug Jugg Jeeyo.

There are various reasons being given for the low numbers, including the competition with Drishyam 2, but the real reason for the low numbers is certainly the lack of hit music. With one chartbuster song, Bhediya would have collected at least 20 percent more, as horror comedy is a genre that always warrants a hit song.

A flat weekend would have made things difficult for Bhediya, but there has been some movement on the upside, which gives a ray of hope, though it's minuscule, as the film had to show much bigger gains in the weekend.

EXCLUSIVE: Giorgia Andriani talks about her career in Bollywood; admits she wants to become “a director”

After making a brief cameo appearance in Guest In London, and marking her digital debut with Karoline Kamakshi, Italian model-actress Giorgia Andriani often grabs the attention for her stunning outfits. Though she has not done any big-screen project or a music video in 2022, media reports often speculate about her upcoming project.

Recently, during a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Andriani gave clarity on the matter and revealed what are her plans for the future. When asked to shed some light on her plans, she asserted, “I just know that for now, I feel like doing music videos because in just a few minutes you have the opportunity to connect with people.”

Elaborating further, she added, “A film is three hours long and it communicates a lot and there's definitely so many chances to connect. However, in a three-minute music video, you still have that opportunity because there's still one story and there are still lyrics that people relate to so for now because it's the beginning of my career I am loving what I'm doing, music videos, for now, is my plan.”

She also asserted, “Life has its own intelligence. I think you can kind of know where you want to go but then it's up to destiny I think so for now I'm just polishing myself.” She also admitted that the plan of being a director is still on along with trying her hand in script writing as well. She concluded by saying, “that (being a director) is still on. However, for now, it's just on a standstill; I will see in the future. I want to be ready for that as well so that will take time.”

Kajol reunites with Karan Johar-owned Dharma Productions after 12 years for Ibrahim Ali Khan’s debut

Filmmaker-actress duo Karan Johar and Kajol have been friends since childhood. The BFFs of Bollywood have given a bunch of hit projects, including Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, among others. However, their relationship worsened when Karan’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Ajay Devgn starrer Shivaay clashed at the box office. Though the duo resolved their differences briefly, fans eagerly waited for them to reunite. And, now, it seems the wait will be over soon as their reunion is on the cards for the debut project of Ibrahim Ali Khan.

If a report by PeeingMoon is something to go by, then Kajol and KJo are all set to join hands for the debut project of Ibrahim Ali Khan. Interestingly, the duo will come together after 12 years. For the unversed, they last worked together for the 2010’s release My Name Is Khan starring Shah Rukh Khan. Talking about the report of the portal, Kajol has signed Karan’s next production venture, to be directed by Kayoze Irani. She is said to have joined the cast to play a lead role alongside debutante Ibrahim Ali Khan.

Quoting an industry source, the report said, “Kajol will play an emotionally strong character and will share the maximum screen time with Ibrahim Ali Khan. She has worked with Ibrahim’s father, Saif Ali Khan, in films like Dillagi, Hameshaa, and Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, and is thrilled to act with his son now in his very first film. Ibrahim has also started his prep and is readying himself to share screen space with seasoned actors like Kajol.”

However, neither the actress nor the filmmaker has made any official announcement of the same. The report also added that the casting for the other pivotal parts of the forthcoming project is underway in Mumbai.

“I am giving auditions and I get rejected a lot,” says Irrfan Khan’s son Babil Khan

Babil Khan, son of the late Irrfan Khan, is making his debut with the Netflix film Qala. It is generally believed that star kids have it easy when it comes to getting the first break. But Babil says that that wasn’t the case with him since he has had to struggle like any other newcomer.

In a chat with Hindustan Times, Babil said, “I don’t think my mother (producer Sutapa Sikdar) can ever pick up the phone and ask for a favour. I have to go give auditions nahi to aisi maar padegi ghar pe (else I would get a thrashing at home). That is our sanskaar. There is no possibility of breaking that. Even now, I am giving auditions and I get rejected a lot. Even today, if there is an audition I really want to crack and I mess it up, she will be so angry at me. But she will never pick up the phone and say, ‘kara do isko’. That is against our values. I think people also understand that.”

Directed by Anvita Dutt, Qala also stars Tripti Dimri and Swastika Mukherjee. The film is based in the film industry of the 1940s.

Babil knows the kind of expectations people have for him because of him being the son of the great Irrfan Khan. “I am always comparing myself to the legacy…you know, bhaar hai,” he added. “I am a person who wants to give the best when I am doing something. We shot this (Qala) two years ago. I have grown as an actor a lot. So, I always wonder ‘I wish I would have done this or that’. But I also believe that whatever art you make has its own journey and you can’t bring your own ego into it.”

Looking back at his father’s way of working, Babil said, “Baba’s entire work was always about the connect with people. He didn’t care about awards, or who was producing or directing him. He just knew he had to play this character and he would draw that from the people. That has come into me as well.”

Qala will stream on Netflix from 2nd December.

Shehnaaz Gill scolds security personnel to let her fan be with her

Stars and celebrities are always surrounded by hundreds of fans, who go any heights to get one glimpse of theirs. But then there are some that are not content with just a glimpse; they wish to do something that makes them stand apart from the rest of the fans.

One such female fan of Shehnaaz Gill had her day recently when she succeeded in walking up to the actress. She wasn’t content with that though. The fan, who was in tears to see her favourite star in such close proximity, presented a gold bracelet to Shehnaaz. The actress, who was moved by the gesture, hesitatingly accepted the gift.

But there was more drama in store when a female security guard tried taking the fan away from Shehnaaz. However, the actress in a visibly strict mode ordered the security personnel to not touch the fan and let her be. This made the fan even more emotional and she tried taking out her ring to present it to her favourite star. Shehnaaz vehemently yet politely refused as she felt that would be too much. The actress hugged and kissed the fan in return.

On the work front, Shehnaaz was a part of the successful Punjabi film Honsla Rakh earlier this year. She will next be seen in the keenly-awaited Salman Khan-starrer Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan.

Bhediya Box Office: Varun Dhawan - Kriti Sanon starrer picks good pace on Day 2

It was a good Saturday for the film industry as both the films in the running ended up attracting footfalls. While Drishyam 2 is doing quite well and growth over the second weekend was always coming, it's nice to see Bhediya picking on good pace as well and joining the party.

The Dinesh Vijan production belongs to the same universe as Stree and Roohi, and for that to be further established Bhediya had to do well too. No wonder, there was no expense spared in making Bhediya a biggie and this is one of the most lavishly mounted productions to come out of Maddock Films. Hence, box office collections needed to be in line to that as well and thankfully that has started happening now, what with the film getting into a double digit score. With 10.50 crores added to its score, the Varun Dhawan starrer has reached Rs. 17.98 crores*.

On the other hand Drishyam 2 is going great guns and that's evident in Saturday collections of Rs. 14 crores*. While a double digit score was always on the cards for the Abhishek Pathak directed suspense drama, a terrific hold on Friday had indicated that Saturday would go much further than just the Rs. 10 crores mark. This is what happened as well and now there would be further increment in numbers today since this one has caught the fancy of family audiences also in a big way, which means Sunday would be ultra huge. So far, the film has collected Rs. 126.16 crores*.

Vikram Gokhale passes away in Pune at the age of 77

Veteran actor Vikram Gokhale died in Pune, at the age of 77, on Saturday.  After reeling under ill health over the past few days, Gokhale breathed his last at Pune's Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital. The late actor was admitted a few days ago due to health-related complications.

Confirming the news, Gokhale's daughter told PTI, “This is to confirm that Mr Vikram Gokhale passed away this afternoon. We would like to thank everyone for their good wishes, support and prayers through this difficult time.” In a statement shared on Thursday, the family of the late actor had informed that he was “extremely critical.”

Another report shared by Indian Express had quoted a source close to the family saying, “Doctors treating him are trying their best, and until the doctors give any further instructions to the family, they’ll not be in the state to make any statement. Please don’t believe any rumours, please keep praying.”

The rumours of his demise had started floating online from Wednesday morning. However, they were later dismissed by his family.

Gokhale had extensively worked in theatre, television and movies, including several Marathi and Bollywood films. He was seen playing significant characters in the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Agneepath, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Natsamrat and Mission Mangal. He was last seen in a Marathi film, titled Godavari.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali opens up on his BAFTA masterclass; says, “It is always a pleasure to come face-to-face with a cinema literate audience”

Sanjay Leela Bhansali leaves for London on November 25 with his film Gangubai Kathiawadi at the BAFTA (British Academy Film Awards). The film is being submitted in all the major categories including Best Film, Director, Adapted Screenplay, Leading Actress and Film Not in the English Language. The award ceremony will be held at the Royal Festival Hall in London in February 2023.

Bhansali will also be hosting a BAFTA Masterclass on November 28.And it is this honour of addressing a masterclass that has Bhansali all excited. “It is always a pleasure to come face-to-face with a cinema literate audience. There will be several screenings of my film at BAFTA so that the audience at the masterclass would be fully conversant with the film.”

Bhansali doesn’t intend to prepare a speech beforehand. “I would rather let the audience ask the questions and then let my responses flow organically.” The one regret during this BAFTA experience would be that Bhansali’s Gangubai, Alia Bhatt, won’t be able to attend with him. “She is at the moment playing the best role of her life. No power in the world can tear her away from enjoying her motherhood right now,” says Bhansali affectionately.

Kajol flaunts her blue BMW X7 SUV worth Rs 1.8 crore!

Bollywood actress Kajol has already kick-started the promotions of her upcoming film Salaam Venky. Ever since the makers launched the trailer of the film, the actress was spotted at various locations to promote it. However, during her recent appearance, the actress was seen flaunting her swanky BMW X7 SUV worth Rs 1.8 crore.

In one of the video posts shared on the verified social media handle and celebrity photographer Viral Bhayani, Kajol looked stunning in a red saree. The actress can be seen walking with her team at the start of the video. However, as the video progresses further, she can be seen posing along with her expensive car for paps. Interestingly, the actress was spotted near the sets of Salman Khan’s popular reality show Bigg Boss.

However, it is worth mentioning that the makers of Bigg Boss Season 16 have not shared any promo video featuring Kajol, so far. It will be interesting to see if Kajol will enter the Bigg Boss house or join the stage with host Salman Khan for the weekend special episodes.

Going by trailer, the film will trace a story of a mother who overcame the most trying conditions with perseverance. Meanwhile, Aamir Khan will also be seen in a cameo appearance.

Bhediya Box Office: Varun Dhawan starrer starts well; Drishyam 2 continues to hold steady on second Friday

It was a big day in theatres all over again as over Rs. 14 crores came in. Last Friday, Drishyam 2 had brought in Rs. 15.38 crores and by the close of first week Rs. 104.66 crores had been accumulated, hence resulting in a bountiful time for the exhibition circle. Now this week too promises another haul of at least 90 crores, what with Drishyam 2 continuing to be on quite good and Bhediya picking on a start from where it can build further over the weekend.

Let's talk about the new release Bhediya first. The film is a biggie by all means and its top notch VFX, 3D release and an interesting storyline are some of the key drivers to bring people to theatres. This, by no means, is a small screen film and hence one expected very good footfalls on the very first day of release. Moreover, since the film is catering to youth and kids primarily, and Varun Dhawan has a good audience there, a double digit haul was expected on Friday. That didn't happen though and a key reason is the parallel play of Drishyam 2 which has its momentum driving it through right into the second week too. Still, Rs. 7.48 crores have come in and with good reports in its favour, there should be a jump in numbers over the weekend.

On the other hand Drishyam 2 is now a set affair, so much so that the drop from Thursday [Rs. 8.62 crores] to Friday [Rs. 7.87 crores] is bare minimum. Even the biggest and the best of the films see some kind of drop on the second Friday, especially after collecting over Rs. 100 crores in the first week, and here the Ajay Devgn starrer is continuing to run strong. The film will comfortably have a second weekend of over Rs. 30 crores and the second week would be over the Rs. 55 crores mark, hence resulting in less than 50% drop from the first week. Superhit moving to blockbuster.

Cirkus: Makers drop three fresh posters of Ranveer Singh starrer featuring colours, madness and fun

A day after treating fans with the first motion poster of Cirkus, the makers of the Ranveer Singh starrer dropped three intriguing posters. Each poster captures the star cast of the film in a different mood. For the unversed, the Rohit Shetty directorial is slated to release on December 23 this year.

Interestingly, a week ago, Ranveer had taken to his official Instagram handle and announced the wrap of the film. “Shooting khatam, Promotion ki planning shuru (shooting is over, now planning for promotions starts)! Mass-ter filmmaker ke Mass-ter plans!!! Buahahahaha!,” followed by a clown and a circus tent emoticon.

Post the announcement, Bollywood Hungama was the first to report about the trailer launch of the forthcoming film. A source close to the development told us, “The trailer will be out in the period of December 1 to December 3. The team is planning a grand launch for the trailer and there will be a big build-up leading to the trailer unveil. Like all Rohit Shetty films, the trailer launch will be followed by the launch of two big songs and finally a release on December 23.”

Speaking on the marketing strategy, the source further added, “That aside, the trailer will be screened every single day at all multiplexes until the release of the film. It's a masterstroke from Rohit and Ranveer too was mighty impressed with the marketing brain.”

Interestingly, the upcoming comedy film will be Shetty and Singh’s second collaboration, after 2018’s Simmba and the latter’s cameo in Sooryavanshi, which was released in 2021. Ranveer will be seen playing a double role for the first time. The ensemble star cast of Cirkus also features a bunch of talented actors, including Pooja Hegde, Jacqueline Fernandez, Johnny Lever, Sanjay Mishra, Varun Sharma, Tiku Talsania, and Vrajesh Hirjee.

SHOCKING! Varun Dhawan’s Bhediya gets leaked online on the day of its release

Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon-starrer Bhediya was released in theatres yesterday through a decent response. But unfortunately for the makers, the film got leaked on the internet on the day of its release itself.  

As per a report by Times Now, the movie, which is directed by Amar Kaushik, got leaked online on various Torrent sites. It will be interesting to see if this has any bearing on the film’s box office performance. As per early estimates, Bhediya has earned in the range of Rs 6 to 7 crore on its opening day yesterday.  

The menace of new releases getting leaked online on the day of their release isn’t new. In fact, just last week, the Ajay Devgn, Tabu and Akshaye Khanna-starrer Drishyam 2 was also leaked online on its opening day.  

But thankfully for the producers, there wasn’t much damage done as the film went onto become a winner at the box office. It succeeded in reaching the Rs 100 crores mark at the ticket window in India in its first week itself and has also performed well overseas.  

Bhediya is a creature comedy about a man, played by Varun, who turns into a wolf after being bitten by one.

India’s biggest romance blockbuster Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge to open Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea International Film Festival

Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan starrer 1995 cult film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge will reportedly open Saudi Arabia’s upcoming Red Sea International Film Festival in the port city of Jeddah. According to Deadline, the feature – which was produced by Yash Raj Films and directed by Aditya Chopra – will open the program for the event’s new open-air Red Sea Corniche venue, which will host free screenings and concerts across the 10 days of the festival.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) follows the story of Raj (Shah Rukh Khan) and Simran (Kajol) who meet during a trip across Europe and fall in love. However, when Raj learns that Simran is already promised to another, he follows her to India to win her and her father over.

“Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is not just our biggest IP, but it’s one of India’s biggest IP that has spread love and joy to millions of people across the world,” said Akshaye Widhani, CEO of Yash Raj Films.

“We are delighted that our film, 27 years after its release, is still one of the most loved films in the history of world cinema. It is our pleasure that DDLJ will be the first film to open public screenings at this year’s Red Sea International Film Festival.”

Moreover, King Khan will be celebrated with an honorary award by Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea International Film Festival. The Hindi cinema icon shot to superstardom after the 1995 blockbuster. “I am truly honored to receive this award from the Red Sea International Film Festival,” Shah Rukh remarked.

“It’s wonderful to be here among my fans from Saudi and the region who have always been huge supporters of my films,” he added. “I’m looking forward to celebrating the region’s talent and being a part of this exciting film community.” Mohammed Al-Turki, CEO of the Red Sea International Film Festival, also commented, “We are thrilled to be honoring Shah Rukh Khan, who is a remarkable talent and global superstar.”

“He has captivated audiences since his earliest performances and is one of the world’s most renowned actors working today,” he added. “After 30 years in the industry, Shah Rukh Khan remains one of the most successful superstars of Indian cinema and is beloved by audiences around the world. We look forward to welcoming him to Jeddah this December.”

Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan is currently gearing up for his next Yash Raj Films feature titled Pathaan due out in January 25, 2023. He is reportedly shooting his latest film titled Dunki in Jeddah. The film is directed by Rajkumar Hirani and also stars Taapsee Pannu along with Boman Irani.

Cirkus motion poster out: Meet the characters of Ranveer Singh starrer, watch

The first motion poster of Cirkus has been released on November 25. The quirky poster gives a glimpse of all the major characters in the upcoming film, including Ranveer Singh and Pooja Hegde. For the unversed, the Rohit Shetty directorial’s ensemble star cast includes Jacqueline Fernandez, Varun Sharma, Johnny Liver, Siddhartha Jadhav and Sanjay Mishra, among others.

As the motion poster starts, we can see, “We are back to entertain your family this Christmas,” on a colourful backdrop. Meanwhile, the peppy music gives a touch of madness to the glimpse of each character. As Ranveer will be seen playing a double role in the forthcoming film, the motion poster of Cirkus introduces his characters first. Later, Pooja Hedge can be seen stunning in a yellow saree in her shot, while Jacqueline Fernandez reminds us of the 80s and 90s Bollywood actresses with an iconic hairstyle and her purple attire.

On the other hand, the glimpses of Johnny Lever, Siddharth Jadhav, Sanjay Mishra, and Varun Sharma also seem promising. The motion poster of Cirkus has sent a section of netizens into a frenzy.

Interestingly, the countdown for the arrival of Rohit Shetty's next, the comedy of error, Cirkus has begun. The team is all set to unveil the trailer at a grand event on December 2 in Mumbai. Bollywood Hungama was the first one to report that Rohit Shetty has locked the trailer of Cirkus.

A trade source told us, “It's a 3-minute 47-second trailer, loaded with comic moments and big scale, with the entire ensemble getting the focus. Rohit has kept a tight campaign leading to release on December 23, and he wants to communicate all that he wants to with the first trailer of the film. He believes to create an impression with the first asset and the ones who have seen the trailer are going gaga over it.”
